Fifth week of February, 1924 + "Memoranda"

Feb 24: Still cold and clear. Mama not well and cross. Norma also out of sorts. Charlie here. Vegetable soup for dinner. Myrtle and Helen here for lunch after pinochle game. Brought two pies. Norma sick. Don't know what is the matter.

Feb 25: Snow melting under bright sun. Merritt started to work. Norma not much better. Had a fine pinochle game in eve. Charlie, Lucille and Harold here.

Feb 26: Another nice day. Spent short day working around. Went to Findlay in the evening. Saw Merritt. Dirty. Doesn't like job. Saw "Flaming Youth." Enjoyed it very much. Players - Milton Sills, Colleen Moore, Sylvia Breamer, Myrtle Steadman, Elliot Dexter.

Feb 27: Beautiful springlike day. Almost odor of spring in the air. Norma not well yet. Roger fine. Played out in afternoon. Horace, kiddies and I were over to Lucilles - Ralph and Velma Jones have baby girl.
   *I found Ralph and Velma Jones and their family in the 1930 census. They are both 26 years old and have a 3-year-old son, a 2-year-old daughter, and a not-quite-1-year-old son. If they had a baby girl in 1924, she would have been 6 in 1930, so I think she may not have survived.

Feb 28: Cloudy, but moderating. Baked two cakes down at Downings. Had supper early. Stayed home all evening. Bill and Flo here. Also John Harolds.

Feb 29: Just "medium" sort of day. Had a terrible washing again. Just thru at 3:00 o'clock. Went to Findlay with Myrtle. Saw Slippy McGee and Vaudeville. Went to dance.

Memoranda: And so has passed another month, with my big question no nearer a solution than last month. What shall I do? Thankful tho that time is passing well.

Fourth week of February, 1924

Feb 17: Still very cold. Bathed both babies. Had our usual amount of company. None of them failed to hunt us up. C.H., Mama and I went down to Myrtle's for short time. Harold and Lucille down. Harold saw a sight I'm very much afraid--too bad.
   *What could she mean? Did he see a ghost? Did he walk in on her in the outhouse?? What???

Feb 18: Cold and still. Merritt still at house. Dick also. Bill brought Allice [?] up and he's sure helping me keep the kids amused. Stayed until evening. Played pinochle last night.

Feb 19: Still very cold. Am certainly having a wonderful time - [it truly looks like she says "not" here. Maybe she's saying "hot"?? but she says "not" in the next sentence and this word looks exactly like that one]. Am sure getting enough to eat and a warm place to stay, but hate to stay and not help. Over to Williamsons until 10:30.

Feb 20: Cold and raining, making a very bad glare of ice. Merritt went to Findlay, but was unsuccessful again altho he says not. C.H. stayed all night. Dad sent Dean and Zeke away. Harold and Lucille here in evening.

Feb 21: No relief from cold. Coal getting low. Harold here at supper time. Mrs. Hanna and Charlie spent eve here. Mr. Hanna and Mr. Harolds came later. Danced.

Feb 22: Lovely day, tho cold. Started a monstrous washing. Decided to go to Findlay in afternoon. Saw vaudeville and "Your Friend and Mine." At night went back - saw "Red Lights." Merritt got job at tile factory.

Feb 23: Another wonderful day. Got up late finished my washing. Mopped and cleaned front rooms and ironed some. Went to Findlay. Saw "Where the North Begins" and "On the Trail of Lopex" [illegible].
   *I can't find anything about "On the Trail of Lopex" or "Lopez" but it's possible it could be a 1923 movie called "On the Trail of Lonesome Pine." 
   *"Where the North Begins" is a Rin-Tin-Tin movie!
   *On this day, 21 years in the future, Mildred's grandson (Norma's son, my Pop) will be born (in Findlay)!

Third week of February, 1924

Feb 10: Splendid winter day. Sun shone all day. Mr. Harolds [?], Harold and Lucille here for dinner. Played pinochle in the evening. Charlie here also.

Feb 11: Snowing hard enough to give fair promise of another deep snow. Feel blue and discouraged. Merritt still out of work. Preparing house to move. Washed part of my washing. Tired.

Feb 12: Rather nice day. Dad not working. Started working nights. Charlie here for dinner. All went to Findlay this P.M. Saw Anna Q. Nilsson in "Ponjola". Good.

Feb 13: Cold but pleasant day. Have sure been busy. Everyone worked hard getting ready to move. Got letter from Erdene [?]. Very tired.

Feb 14: Beautiful day. Everyone on the move. Charlie here helping. Had dinner in new home. Mama and I had furious quarrel. Makes me very unhappy.

Feb 15: Another pretty day, early, but started to snow toward middle of the afternoon. Boys home helping move the small things we left yesterday. Like home.

Feb 16: Rose early. Very cold. Attempted to wash out a few things. Kids very noisy. Had terrible time keeping them quiet enough for Dad to rest. Charlie sick so no Findlay for us.

Second week of February, 1924

Feb 3: Beautiful, spring-like day. Had very little company. Spent very quiet blue day. Went to bed very early. Woodrow Wilson dead. World lost great man.

Feb 4: Cloudy and raining. Got up rather early. Merritt went to work for Doty. Don't expect much money from it however. Uneventful day.

Feb 5: Drizzling rain, turning into hard showers frequently. Went to Findlay with Mama and C.H. Saw "Fashion Row" with Mae Murray and "Song of Love" with Norma T. 

Feb 6: Very cold and snowing hard. Merritt unable to work on account of weather. Walked out to Warners in terrible gale in search of boys. Myrtle gave me my supper. 

Feb 7: Still cold and snowed some this morning. Mama baked several apple pies. Rented Bill W's house. Caught Merritt in some of his lies. All out of sorts. Have to take kids to bed. Bad little nuts.

Feb 8: Lonely for winter day [?]. Merritt hunted in rain for work again. Dad trading with Ballinger. Mama baked spice cake and meat loaf. Fine. Baby cross.

Dick was hypnotized by Ada Rof.

Feb 9: Got up very early. Cold out. Started to snow about noon. Did small washing. Merritt started preparations for moving. Charlie here for supper. Dad and Dick in Findlay.
